La Chamba going strong in 2013

A few nights ago, after checking out Fernando Barragan's new pyrography pieces at the Fremont Gallery in Pasadena, me and the fellas went to check out Barrio Funky at the Grand Star in Chinatown. If you haven't gone to the Grand Star it is a must for any LA visitor or residente. This place sports a small illuminated dance floor on the bottom and a cozy top floor with enough room for a band and some cumbiamberos. We got there right on time as La Chamba, LA's local chicha band, was gearing up and doing a mic check. After a few songs, I was really impressed by how much tighter the band is now. They have a whole repetoire of chicha classics in their aresenal :  El Guapo by Los Diablos, Silbando by Los Ribereños, No Jueges con el Diablo by Compay Quinto, and the list goes on.  They even took a request of mine Cariñito... I almost lost it, this is Peru's 2nd national anthem!
